A graduate level education program in TCCC
I consider this a graduate level education program in TCCC. Having spent 15 months deployed to Iraq, I actually learned that some of my favorite gear are inferior to other pieces of equipment. Dr. Shertz provided me with the data and training to be more effective. It’s literally advice that makes people more effective in providing combat and tactical care. I’ve never seen anything like it.
A must have in your medical knowledge tool bag
The First Receivers course is a must have in your medical knowledge tool bag to ensure you and your medical facility are prepared for mass casualty events. Outstanding recommendations that include cutting edge tactics, tips, and procedures (TTPs), will increase your preparedness and that of your facility to handle worst case scenarios.
This is the fourth course I have taken with Crisis Medicine. You will be extremely hard pressed to find any equal in on-line medical training than that given by Dr. Shertz. As former Army combat veteran, West Point instructor, and current Red Cross licensed training provider, Coast Guard Auxiliarist, lifeguard, and diver… When Dr. Shertz speaks, I listen and take notes. Enroll in this course, it will increase your ability to save lives and help your organization to improve, and be well worth the money and time invested.

Highest quality
As a former EMT, Emergency Medicine Physician Assistant, Ranger Medic and graduate of the Special Forces Aidman Course, I found this training to be of the highest quality. It is ideal for the experienced medic looking to advance his skills, while at the same time accessible to the motivated rescuer without an extensive medical background.
Definitely worth doing this course! You have my seal of approval.
Informative, concise, and an excellent teaching method. Being an ex-military type myself, I very much appreciated the simple, clear verbiage as well as the subtle military sense of humor that comes through in all the lessons. I would certainly recommend this course to anybody who has an interest in tactical or emergency care. I have done many courses in my time and as online courses go, this was certainly one of (if not) the best. Bravo!
Wow, Fantastic
Having completed a TCCC prior to this I was a bit unsure doing one online, however, I had heard a lot about the good Doctor and took the plunge… and I’m glad I did, great work really enjoyed the course.
Keep up the great work.
One of the best courses I have ever taken
What a Fantastic course, although the course was online, the feeling you get from this course is that you are there with Dr. Mike Sherz. I am already Qualified for Pre-Hospital Care, but to upskill my Tactical Trauma Knowledge, this was one of the best courses I have ever taken. The information was presented in a way that explains, the why behind the reason for the treatment, and also the, why behind ballistic injury, using the different rounds available.
I really enjoyed this course, having completed many courses in the past. This was by far THE BEST. With Dr. Shertz’s Special Forces background and knowledge, the course really does what it says on the tin “LESSONS LEARNED IN BLOOD.”
…Content developed with a lot of thought and investment representing decades of real-world experience.
I’ve undertaken a range of training in medical first response, including a four-day course in Wilderness First Aid and a basic TECC course. I’ve also participated in a global conference webinar series and subscribe to a number of different podcasts, webinars, and other resources on TCCC and TECC. Out of the dozens of instruction I’ve received from special operations medics, medical personnel and physicians I have not received a more comprehensive, evidence-based course covering the full range of TCCC/TECC guidelines. Its no-nonsense approach to showing what works and what doesn’t will no doubt save lives.
The content was obviously developed with a lot of thought and investment representing decades of real-world experience. Anyone from a trauma physician, to an EMS paramedic or special operations medic, security operator or remote medic would benefit greatly from the course.
You will get information here that I did not get in medical school or my trauma rotations.
I am a new direct commission Army National Guard physician (Field Surgeon, 62B). I have had prior civilian EMT experience and also went to a reserve police academy before going to medical school.
Due to COVID-19 all my initial officer/military training has been delayed. Having already been deployed to recent riots in our state, I realized that I sorely needed to become more familiar with Tactical Combat Casualty Care and the scope of practice of my 68Ws (combat medics). Despite my prior training, TCCC is a significantly different paradigm to what I am used to.
The Crisis Medicine Complete Tactical Casualty Care course exceeded my expectations. It is comprehensive, up to date with the latest information, and evidence based. I appreciate Dr. Shertz’s questioning of dogma and impartial evaluation of medical data and devices. The lectures are engaging and strike the perfect balance between the course material and relevant anecdotes. Despite the long course length, the material is always engaging and I was very impressed by the production values of the videos.
You will get information here that I did not get in medical school or my trauma rotations.
I look forward to signing up for more courses with Crisis Medicine in the future.

Exhaustive content, worth every minute.
I live in a war torn country and the tactical care is very applicable to my every day living. Past medical training covered basics and I wanted to delve in depth. It was fantastic. The CM staff were incredibly FAST in responding to my emails and problems I had on my end with slow internet. Laurie was fantastic with ensuring that I was able to access all of the content.
As a result of this course, our company will be re-evaluating each medical kit to ensure we are prepared should a crisis arise, and as a family we will be teaching our kids what we have learned. Thank you, CM for your excellence in the courses
A fantastic addition to the TCCC/TECC curriculum provided by Crisis Medicine
The First Receiver course is a fantastic addition to the TCCC/TECC curriculum provided by Crisis Medicine. The course material provides a unique look at the critical transition point from prehospital to emergency room care in a mass casualty incident.
The course material is extremely valuable for physicians and advanced practice providers who work in hospitals. As a physician, I appreciated the lessons not only on treatment, but also the logistical and practical considerations on handling an overwhelming number of patients with limited resources. The information provided is data driven, and the lessons are scalable from small community hospitals to large academic medical centers.
This course also provides valuable training for military providers, particularly those in role 1 and 2 medical treatment facilities operating in an austere environment.
Anyone who carries a firearm should take this course.
Dr. Shertz has the unique ability to provide tactical medical training from both a Special Forces Medic (18D) background as well as being a board certified physician.
Being prepared to defend yourself or others from a violent incident includes being prepared to provide lifesaving medical attention when needed. Anyone who carries a firearm professionally or as an armed citizen should take this course.
Thoroughly researched and professionally presented
The Advanced Tactical Casualty Care course is everything I was looking for in such a course: thoroughly researched and professionally presented information. I found several things most useful. First, Dr. Shertz supplements the data in the course with his professional opinion. Second, the section on wound ballistics and combat mindset: I’ve never received such a deep look at the mechanism of traumatic injuries, particularly gunshot wounds. Finally, while I would have liked to be in-person for the scenarios, they were practical and well explained. Overall, the course and Dr. Shertz far exceeded my expectations. The course was worth every penny and then some. Thanks, Dr. Shertz for the course!. And, thank you Laurie Shertz for the engagement and quality customer experience.
As I started the Course already started to amaze me, with detailed Classes and backed up by proof and in-depth research
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I really enjoyed Complete TC2 and gained a lot of extra knowledge
I am a Private security contractor and did some Medical courses before, 1 as a requirement (FPOSi), and the other as an extra (TTLS). I saw Crisis Medicine on Facebook, read up on them, and gathered some information. I enrolled in the TC2 Complete Online Course, as I felt I could gain some extra knowledge. As I started the Course already started to amaze me, with detailed Classes and backed up by in Combat Proof and in-depth research. Reasons were provided as to his opinions on some equipment which was really an eye-opener. Overall, I really enjoyed it and gained a lot of extra knowledge, Thanks for the great presentation and classes.
A must-take course!
Once again a superior online educational experience. Simply well done and taught. Considering the current environment in the world (2022) this is a must-take course!

…Providing information that other courses simply don’t cover
This course, like basically all Crisis-Medicine.com courses, is an eye-opener: providing information that other courses simply don’t cover. With the motto, understand the WHY not just the trick, crisis-medicine courses provide you with the background as well as the simple go-to techniques required to become better, more knowledgeable, and challenged in your field. The CBRN course is and has always been a very unique subject matter that not many master. Having done this course, at a minimum gives you an extra page in your book, to recognise where a patient is heading, if all your other ideas have failed! Great as always!
This is an excellent comprehensive course.
This is an excellent comprehensive course. Even after being a military medic with multiple deployments and 8 years as a remote/austere emergency medicine PA, I learned about new evidence for certain interventions as well as more efficient ways to implement interventions from this course.
Dr. Shertz is direct with relevant information and real-world experience. What Dr. Shertz teaches is evidence-based medicine with no financial influence. You learn the science, how/why, and realistic application of medicine in a hostile setting. Highly recommend this course!
A Comprehensive educational experience
I just completed the Complete TC2 course presented by Dr. Shertz. This course was by far the best online course I have ever participated in. Dr. Shertz’s absolute command of the subject matter leads to a very comprehensive educational experience that leads the end user to be able to learn and apply new skill sets as well as confirming existing understanding to a deeper level. The production quality of the lectures, skills and scenarios make the learning process feel much more like it is in a classroom rather than online. The slides, charts and other graphics used are absolutely first class. This online education experience raises the bar for online education.
…Depth of his knowledge of treating casualties in the tactical environment is second to none
The ATC2 course came highly recommended to me by a very close friend and Navy SEAL and it did not disappoint. I have an intermediate background in TacMed and was looking for some refresher material to integrate into my team’s training but ended up receiving so much more. I was pleasantly surprised at how easy Doc Shertz makes this course to follow as many online courses can be quite stale. The depth of his knowledge of treating casualties in the tactical environment is second to none and his teaching methodologies kept me engaged and very focused. Well done, Sir, well done! I would absolutely take another Crisis Medicine course without hesitation. If you’re skeptical about online training through them, don’t be. He’s the real deal and you will not be disappointed.

Obviously well researched & very applicable
If you have an interest in CBRN, particularly as a TCCC/TECC responder/provider, I can highly recommend this excellent online learning from Crisis Medicine LLC (I have no commercial interest!).
I’ve done numerous CBRN/Hazmat courses over time, both military & civilian, and I found the obviously well researched content of this course to be of a very high standard & very applicable in non/semi-permissive environments. Well presented by Dr Mike Shertz MD-18D, with self-check quizzes at relevant stages of the course, all supported by relevant, up-to-date case studies.
This is the 2nd CM course I’ve undertaken & haven’t been disappointed by the value for money training/learning they provide.
…Both erudite and entertaining with a massive dose of brutal reality
The Crisis-Medicine TC2 Course is an outstanding block of curriculum for organizations aiming to bring individuals and groups up to a vital standard for emergency response to trauma casualties. Dr. Shertz delivers compelling and entertaining, no-nonsense solutions to critical problems. The material is both erudite and entertaining with a massive dose of brutal reality and comprehensive trauma problem solving for the tactical paradigm. Our unit has implemented this program as a required block for all personnel. Excellent training.
The most educational TCCC course…
The absolute best TCCC course I’ve taken. I had multiple opportunities taking TCCC/CLS training from and with 68W and 18D in the past, but this course was the most educational one. Course was well designed with tons of good info including background info. I wish to take a hands-on class with Crisis Medicine to hone my skills if possible to test all the knowledge I learned through the online course. This course is highly recommendable to all military members and first responders, and I wish standard military medical training available to all service members is equivalent to this CM course.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Great nuggets of hard-won knowledge throughout
I recently completed the online, on-demand version of Tactical Casualty Care (TC2) by Crisis Medicine. I’ve received medical training from several Law Enforcement academies and in-service programs, all of which focused on the basics. I went into this course to refresh my knowledge of how to deal with trauma, and TC2 exceeded my expectations.
The elephant in the room, and I’m sure no one disagrees, is that these skills are best learned when there is an opportunity to practice over and over under the watchful eye of the instructor. For those for whom in-person training is not immediately possible, however, this is an excellent alternative.
The course is well-organized and thorough. There are great nuggets of hard-won knowledge throughout, some of which I had not been taught elsewhere, including on ballistics, bandages, tourniquets, CPR, and tension pneumothorax.
Dr. Shertz has an extremely impressive medical background, and that is invaluable. But knowledge is only part of the equation for a course like this. I’m sure many of us have experienced instructors who were very knowledgeable, but had trouble transmitting that knowledge. Not so here.
I have had the good fortune to receive instruction from prominent experts in other areas, many of whom have the advantage of being in fields where communication and public speaking are inherent to their entire academic and professional trajectories. The incisive, precise, and confident delivery Dr. Shertz showcases in this course puts many of those other instructors to shame. There is also an excellent use of dry, dark humor sprinkled in.
…These events require a mindset change from typical emergency responses…
I decided to take this class because I am a forward-deployed medic, working in the only clinic on-site, and we have a high probability of experiencing a mass casualty event. Though we train for this weekly, it has always seemed as though we don’t move efficiently through our patient load and never quite understood why.
Now, after viewing this course, I now understand that these events require a mindset change from typical emergency responses. I am now better prepared to go to my seniors and advocate for changes, as well as better train my juniors. Thank you for yet another exceptional class.
10x more detail oriented than the DoD / NATO TCCC in-person course
I cannot say enough about the course. Dr. Shertz covers everything from A to Z, making this an incredible TCCC refresher for me. I’d say this was 10x more detail oriented than the DoD / NATO TCCC in-person course I took in 2019. I recommend Crisis Medicine online courses to my coworkers as a way for them to get interested in medical information, and a way for them to stay up-to-date on the latest CoTCCC guidelines / recommendations.
I will definitely be attending an in-person Crisis Medicine course.
…Addresses each topic utilizing an easy-to-understand approach
This is good training, no doubt about it. During my years in the military I was trained to TCCC standards and my volunteer work ensured that I was exposed to even more demanding challenges. So, as far as I’m concerned, this course goes over the science behind the injuries that can lead to deaths that are preventable and then demonstrates in a very comprehensive manner all the skills necessary, to the person on scene, to treat these injuries. It addresses each topic utilizing an easy-to-understand approach so even someone without previous training can easily follow the pace. I consider this training an essential self-improvement step for everyone who has developed the mindset that it is not a question of IF but WHEN one will need these skills.
The course was phenomenal.
The course was phenomenal.
One of the best courses I have ever listened to. I’m a medical student that lives in Ukraine and can fairly say that this course helped and will help me much more in the future while my country is in war. Lectures are on point and well explained. Dr. Shertz does an outstanding job with focusing all your attention on the topic and keeps you from sleeping with good humor. I highly recommend it.
…Information here that surprised and enlightened me
I will start by saying this: I am an Army Medic, 10 years of experience, all with line units. I believe I am a knowledgeable and competent medic, and that is backed by my peers and superiors.
With that said, I learned more in 90 minutes than I have in all my various training and recertification classes combined. There is information here that surprised and enlightened me. After this, I feel more empowered to be a better provider and better instructor to my peers. I’ve already recommended this class to anyone that will listen to me here, and I look forward to taking more classes.
…Allowed me to have the confidence that I can handle any situation
I already have Combat Life Saver certification, but this course allowed me to have the confidence that I can handle any situation I might find myself in. I’ve already recommended this course to my organization of 24 individuals!
with today’s environment and the potential remoteness of our hobbies, the need for more advanced training … was needed.
I retired from 20 years of active duty service in the U.S. Navy. When I left the Navy over 15 years ago I had been through several of the Navy’s environmental survival schools and field first aid training but nothing on a TCCC level, as it had not been developed yet.
Both myself and my girlfriend enjoy going to the range, SCUBA diving as well as open-road cycling. We also do a lot of our own home improvement requiring the use of power tools. Now we’re not Spec-Ops “door kickers” but we realize with today’s environment and the potential remoteness of our hobbies, the need for more advanced training outside of a Basic Life Saving or the hour-long STB course was needed.
After a lot of research, I found this (TC2) course. For an educator, for “Joe average civilian”, someone going to the range, offshore to go diving or to the backcountry, even for someone working with power tools on a weekend home improvement project, or your first line deputy, this is a great course. Though the content of this course is directed at injuries derived from gunshots, Dr. Shertz also explains throughout this course that these types of injuries can be sustained from a variety of accidents.
It is said that expertise is developed through repeated exposure to information, patterns, and experiences over time. Dr. Shertz thoroughly explains the hows and whys in layman’s terms. Throughout the course, he reinforces the data presented with examples and scenarios. I hope it is knowledge I never have to use, though I am certainly glad I sought out what I feel is the best in class training, should the need ever arise.
I’ve sat through hundreds of hours of online training. Dr. Shertz’s course was totally different. He was engaging and authentic.
This is outstanding training. I’m a Firefighter, but I spent nearly a decade as a Federal agent, plus several years in two different branches of the military. In these jobs, I’ve sat through hundreds of hours of online training. Dr. Shertz’s course was totally different. He was engaging and authentic. Rather than speeding through slides to get to the end of the course, I found myself taking notes, rewinding lectures, and viewing blocks of instruction multiple times until I was certain I understood the concepts. I appreciated his depth of knowledge and his passion for the subject matter is clear. This is a high-quality course that I’d recommend to both Firefighters and LEOs.

…one of the top 10 trainings I’ve taken. Period.
My Lt asked me to evaluate the course and see if it was something we should offer to the rest of the agency. After taking this course, I am giving him a resounding yes.
In 25 years of LE experience, I have sat through HOURS of in-person and online training. This is by far one of the best online courses I have ever taken. I might even say the top 10 trainings period. The Dr. was informative, engaging and enjoyable to watch.
Well done.
I am a TEMS unit member for a small, but busy urban EMS service in Canada. With the advent of our K9 prehospital care program, I chose this course to augment my current knowledge. Dr. Shertz presented a very well-organized, module-based learning platform that is engaging and supported by studies. The timeline is more than adequate to complete the course at the learner’s convenience. Visual skills demonstration and a final curriculum test rounds off this online-learning course. Very well done. Would highly recommend.
The course was excellent… Extremely interesting
I have taken a few in-person courses with Dr. Shertz. I have taken two other TCCC courses, including a train the trainer. This was my first online course. The course was excellent. It felt like I was sitting in Dr. Shertz class during the lecture portions. Dr. Shertz is an excellent presenter and trainer with a smooth delivery and the ability to give a lot of information in a way that keeps your attention. You can tell that he is an expert in the field and that he is passionate about it. I like that Dr. Shertz gives you more information than just “do this.” He gives background information and talks about how and why things are done. He gives a lot of information from studies in order to support his statements and the interventions taught. I found it extremely interesting.
It isn’t always practical to find a local class or to travel for training. I think that is where these online courses come in. Take one of these online courses and follow it up with practicing the physical skills shown in the course. Any first responder, gun owner, parent, hunter, etc should know this stuff. Do the training before you need it.
I now feel confident that I would be able to provide emergency care fora K9
Another great creation from Crisis Medicine! I took this class and I’m not even a K9 handler, but now I feel confident that if any of my working K9’s need urgent care, I now have the knowledge to help prevent a K9 casualty. Any K9 handler I come across, this course will be mentioned to them! Great job and keep up the great work!
I highly recommend this online course to any physician considering tactical medicine.
Recently I joined a SWAT Team as the team physician, after being a board-certified emergency physician for over 10 years with ATLS training I thought I was ready for the team. After taking the complete course I realized how much I did not know about Tactical Medicine.
After hours and hours covering relevant topics backed up by real-world experience and research studies, I feel much more confident that I can contribute to my SWAT team in a medical capacity. Mike gave solid advice of what works and what doesn’t work, I felt he spoke my language as a physician and was very to-the-point. His experience as a Special Teams Medic and a current Emergency Physician made him the perfect instructor for this topic.

The Crisis-Medicine TC2 Course is an outstanding block of curriculum for organizations aiming to bring individuals and groups up to a vital standard for emergency response to trauma casualties. Masterfully delivered through informative and entertaining lecture, combined with impressive visuals
I found the Advanced TC2 online course to be simply outstanding.
I have had the privilege of attending several of Dr. Shertz’s live courses. The ATC2 online course provided the same high level of professional instruction as the in-person classes.
The ATC2 online course is well designed and intuitive to navigate. The comprehensive curriculum is masterfully delivered through informative and entertaining lecture, combined with impressive visuals. The time required for each section of the ATC2 course is clearly displayed, which made it easy for me to train during my erratic schedule on the narcotics unit.
I valued Dr. Shertz’s no bull sh!t perspective when evaluating first aid gear.
The video scenarios do an excellent job of demonstrating how the techniques could be used in real-world situations.
Anyone who calls themselves a “first responder” needs the information in the ATC2 course. I would recommend Crisis Medicine courses to anyone who enjoys outdoor recreation such as hunting, hiking, and off-road motor-sports.
Thank you for sharing the knowledge.
Comprehensive and Thorough
This is a comprehensive and thorough course in an easy to follow and understand format from an amazing instructor. I would love to take the in-person version of this course as a refresher someday.
The Advanced TC2 class was invaluable.
The Advanced TC2 class was invaluable. I’m glad this course was more than just learning about tourniquets for hemorrhage control. Having the hands-on practice of wound packing, wrapping junctional wounds, and needle decompression on real models has given me a lot of confidence in my ability to address more than just bleeding out of arms and legs.
The online course including wound packing videos was very helpful and informative. I think [our police] officers have a lot of comfort with tourniquets but because they’re only for arms and legs, and it was interesting to be given a possible solution for bleeding from other areas of the body where the tourniquet wouldn’t be appropriate.
As a police officer my sole duty is to protect and save lives, this course will hopefully allow me to do that better.
I was fortunate enough to take this course after completing TC2, which I thoroughly enjoyed. As a police officer, and current EMS student, I wanted to learn and see more of what I could do to help in the field. My theory on my profession, and my life, is to be as well rounded and educated as possible. This course, with the help of Dr. Shertz, certainly provided me what I was looking for. Honestly, I believe I learned more from Dr. Shertz in his courses, than I did an entire 18 week EMS course for Basic EMT.Not only did he address the basics, but he covered skills that directly translate into the real world in a way that is easy to follow. It’s a lot of information, but it’s useful information that can help save lives. As a police officer my sole duty is to protect and save lives, this course will hopefully allow me to do that better. After completing both TC2 & CTC2, I would more than recommend them to anyone interested in learning how to save a life in the field, regardless of skill level. It’s easy to see Dr. Shertz is a stand up gentleman, aside from his well spoken lectures and sly humor, he cares for the education of others. I certainly hope I can pay it forward some day with the skills I learned from him.
Agency-wide training: all positive feedback
My agency recently used the Wound Ballistics section for supplemental training for all our EMR certified police officers. The information was great and the officers learned a lot. This course is great for anyone who treats or creates gunshot wounds. I had nothing but positive feedback from all of our police officers. In addition, the staff at Crisis Medicine was great to work with!

Successfully resuscitated dogs saved from a fire after this class
This class is top notch. I am a full time firefighter/paramedic, while on shift, I was dispatched to a residential structure fire. On our arrival we found a single story residential structure that was well involved with the human occupants outside. During my crews interior fire attack, my LT pulled 2 dogs from the home. Local law enforcement attempted to start treatment of the k9’s. While functioning as engineer and bringing tools to the front door I noticed that the officers had no idea what they were doing. I was able to quickly assist them in the proper positioning of the K9’s and give verbal commands that led to the successful resuscitation of one of the dogs. I am confident that prior to this class I wouldn’t have had the knowledge base or the confidence to perform as I did with this patient type. I absolutely recommend this class to anyone working in EMS, Law Enforcement with K9’s, or anyone that is a dog owner.
Take this course… you will not regret it!
The information in this course would be valuable in a number of settings, but it’s an absolute must for law enforcement. Having taken a ton of online courses (completed a Masters Degree online), I was really surprised at how well this course delivered. All of the content was relevant… NO fluff.
Dr. Shertz was an engaging presenter, and it was clearly evident that he knows his stuff. The section on wound ballistics was the most thorough information I’d ever gotten on the subject, both as a Marine and a Sheriff’s Deputy, and it put casualty care approaches in context. Speaking as a School Resource Deputy, this should be required training for anyone who knows that they have the potential for being involved in an active violent event.
I learned more than I did in 10 years of practicing medicine
Thank you for teaching such a fantastic course (Complete Tactical Casualty Care)! I learned more in the past week than I did in all of my education and the last ten years of practicing medicine. Thank you for what you do!
…Exactly like training with Doc Shertz in person
I have known Doc Shertz since 2001. In nearly two decades of having received training from him, I have attended numerous courses he’s taught including his five-day/44-hour in-person TCCC course. The training I just received in the on-line Advanced TC2 course is exactly like training with Doc Shertz in person. This includes everything from how he shares various stories to his sense of humor. If one can’t train with him in person, his online training through Crisis Medicine is the next best thing!
Some things I really liked that stood out with the on-line course was the ability to skip around the various modules if needed, as well as being able to see how many minutes each module was ahead of time.
The short quizzes were good too. They offered just enough of an assessment to ensure the student was awake and not just “clicking through,” but not challenging for folks who paid attention through the course material.
Overall, the video and sound production was very well done, including background colors, visuals, etc. This included various camera angles and a good balance between Doc Shertz talking and the PowerPoint presentation he was going over. At no point did it ever feel like a “death by PowerPoint.” The instructional format kept me interested the entire time.
Being in a reserve component of the military, I have completed countless required online training courses. I can honestly say Crisis Medicine’s online course was the best I have ever done.
This course is amazing for an online course.
No death by power point here. I definitely felt as if I was in the classroom the entire time. Hands down best online course for any subject matter I have taken.
Hands-down the best online training
I am on our Defensive Tactics Team. This material is hands-down the best online training I have attended. The material is fantastic and the ruggedly handsome guy is a great presenter.
…Refreshing to watch an online class that kept my attention
After being in Public Safety for over 20 years in a mix of LE and Fire/EMS it was refreshing to watch an online class that kept my attention. Being a Tactical Medic this CE was extremely relevant and will do our team well. I look forward to the other classes Crisis-Medicine offers. I must also add the customer service is amazing. Prompt email response, and genuine willingness to work with us, and doing so the whole time in a nice friendly manner. You can not go wrong by using this group! Excellent job from A to Z.
Dr. Shertz’s style of teaching and down-to-earth attitude made the presentations enjoyable.
If you are looking for a TCCC course as initial instruction or as a refresher, this is the one. The way that the videos were setup into modules made it easy to complete while at work, in between calls for service. The videos and photographs used in the program gave a real-world look at the injuries we may encounter. The wound ballistics lesson was especially interesting as it provided insight into what type of wound you can expect from a gunshot. I would absolutely recommend this class to others and will be looking to take the advanced course soon.
Exactly like training with Doc Shertz in person.
This includes everything from the way he shares various stories to his sense of humor. If one can’t train with him in person, his on-line training through Crisis Medicine is the next best thing!
Some things I really liked that stood out with the on-line course was the ability to skip around the various modules if needed, as well as being able to see how many minutes each module was ahead of time.
The short quizzes were good too. They offered just enough of an assessment to ensure the student was awake and not just “clicking through,” but not challenging at all for folks who payed attention through the course material.
Overall, the video and sound production was very well done including background colors, visuals, etc. This included various camera angles and a good balance between Doc Shertz talking and the PowerPoint presentation he was going over. At no point did it ever feel like a “death by PowerPoint” type of presentation. The instructional format kept me interested the entire time.
Being in a reserve component of the military, I have completed countless on-line training courses that are required. I can honestly say the on-line course I just completed through Crisis Medicine was the best on-line course I have ever done.
Thank you Doc Shertz for another incredible training opportunity! Your on-line training format is remarkable and the content will definitely save lives. I will certainly recommend it to others!
…Most well put together, comprehensive CBRN medical course I have ever taken
I have been working in the Tactical Emergency Medicine for almost 30 years. I have been doing it full time for the Federal Government for 15 of those years. Our shop provides tactical medicine education in addition to operational direct action support in all aspects of the tactical medicine work space to include CBRN operational environment.
This is truly the most well put together, comprehensive CBRN medical course I have ever taken. Honestly better than most hands on courses I have taken on the topic. My hat is off to Dr. Shertz on the research he has done in this space and what he has created with this course. TOP SHELF.
This online course brings you as close to real hands-on training as I can imagine
This online course brings you as close to real hands-on training as I can imagine and though it can’t replace practical training, it very likely outmatches many practical courses out there on the instructional side.
Mike Shertz has a solid background in combat casualty care in military, law enforcement, and civilian settings. He presents his material in a way that makes you feel like following an actual class. Good presentation skills and a sense of humour make it enjoyable to listen to him.
The online course is professionally made and offers you theory and skill videos, different quizzes about the topics of TCCC and a summary manual. After finishing the course, you can also print a certificate of your participation. You will learn not just how different techniques work, but also the why, results of different studies, historical background, statistics from military all over the world, and alternative techniques in case one doesn’t work. The videos contain a wide range of medical diagrams, pictures of casualties, videos where you see the techniques conducted on actual patients, followed by “pig-lab” videos and training on dummies, and even cadavers.
I highly liked the Instructor’s mindset regarding having a Plan B. By the end of the course you will not just have a primary and alternative, but also a contingency and emergency plan for almost all the techniques. His SF background really shows up, when he shows you how to improvise with the most basic and often improvised tools, in case you run out of commercially available products.
If you are looking for a way to self-study and improve your knowledge about this topic, I can highly recommend this course.
I feel much more prepared after this course (on-line TC2).
I feel much more prepared after this course (on-line TC2). I am a South African Police officer, am certified in First Aid, and also did the Control The Bleed course (the same one you have in the US) recently.
This TC2 course really taught me a lot. I like the style in which Mike presents it and I value his opinions. The course stimulated me to think about certain concepts and I will surely carry this knowledge with wherever I go.
Kept my interest start to finish
Great information, even better presentation of the material. A fantastic alternative to an in person class. It kept my interest start to finish (which is tough to do for cops). Nice job Doc!
It is by far one of the best, if not the best medical classes I have ever taken
This class is top notch. It is by far one of the best, if not the best medical classes I have ever taken. Owner/ Instructor Dr. Mike Shertz is not only extremely knowledgeable and experienced in this field but can also effectively explain things in a way that makes sense for real world applications. This isn’t one of those Paramedic / medical classes where you verbalize what you want done and move on. This is a class where you learn to work your problem in a very well orchestrated, real-world scenario, with real role players, and keep working the problem until it’s solved.
Crisis Medicine overall sets the standard for real world medical training. I have done the 5 day Complete TC2 in-person class twice and each time learned new skills, techniques and other little nuggets of information.
The course is fantastic!
I am a Engineer/Paramedic with Bend Fire & Rescue. I am also a Tactical Medic with the Central Oregon Emergency Response Team (CERT). My fellow team medic and I were tasked with taking your course as a “test run” to determine if it is an effective way to educate the entire Bend Police Department on TCCC. We both intend to report back an enthusiastic ‘yes’ (in spite of the frequent disparaging remarks about Marines and our affinity for coloring books, reflective stickers and bouncy balls). Furthermore, we look forward to your company recommencing with in-person courses, so that the two of us can hone our robust and godlike medical skills for the tactical environment.
* [Note from Crisis Medicine, we deny any disparaging remarks about said coloring books, reflective stickers and bouncy balls.]
Informative, Relevant, Easy-to-Understand, and Oddly Fun
I have taken 3 courses from Crisis Medicine and the T-CBRN course was my favorite. Dr Shertz always teaches in a way that makes difficult topics easier to understand. I went into the T-CBRN course with little knowledge on the subject and he presented the information in a way that was informative but not over my head. He uses very relevant data and anecdotes with the information he presents so that it all makes sense. Dr. Shertz does not ramble or give unimportant information, and unlike some instructors, his courses do not seem like infomercials promoting a brand. He also has a sense of humor that makes learning more fun.
I highly recommend Crisis Medicine and will continue to enroll in future classes taught by Dr Shertz.
Top-notch information combined with dynamic presentation
I have 11 years of experience as a street, SAR, SWAT, and now an industrial medic at remote sites in Northern Canada. I’ve taken quite a few courses and been to and led countless tactical trainings/inservices. Dr. Shertz’s course was some of the best training I’ve received. He manages to provide a solid foundation and practice combined with a good amount of exploration of the different options available as far as gear, which is important when you may not know what you will have available or approved at different sites and services. His presentation style is engaging, without devolving into war stories. His SF background is invaluable, and his ER experience makes the information provided here relatable and actionable for civilian and LEO EMS professionals who aren’t downrange. He covered everything that we covered during my initial TCCC training, with updates and additions that help me integrate the TCCC principles to my everyday EMS and tactical practice. There is a huge amount of crossover between the tactical principles in this course and my current work as an industrial medic in the mining sector, as industry provides plenty of opportunity for blunt trauma, crush, environmental, HAZMAT, and blast injuries, not to mention extraction challenges.
There’s no substitute for hands-on training, so I’m looking forward to attending a course with Dr. Shertz when I need to refresh! That being said, I would recommend this online course to anyone, especially while it’s difficult to do in-person training during the current pandemic.
This course is on point and expertly delivered. Mike walks you through a complete MARCH assessment and treatment of a K9 with your current skills, IFAK, and med bag. I’ve had the pleasure of being in Mike’s company several times over the years, and I wish all on-line training was as well delivered and as effective. I signed all our medics up for this course prior to recert and running K9 trauma lanes.
Scott Kimball, US Marshals, Special Operations Group – Deputy Commander
I’d give the course 5,000 stars…
This course is outstanding. Mike is a phenomenal instructor. He keeps you engaged and has set the course up to it is easy to follow. Whether you are new to first aid or a doctor, I promise you will find the course informative and entertaining. I love that his experience and training is reflected in the course as well. It is also great that he backs up everything with medical literature and research, and when he disagrees or has an opinion he clearly tells you it is his opinion and supports it with rational and solid reasoning. He is also quite witty and funny at times. Cannot wait to take the next course!
Wow, Fantastic
Having completed a TCCC prior to this I was a bit unsure doing one online, however, I had heard a lot about the good Doctor and took the plunge… and I’m glad I did, great work really enjoyed the course.
Keep up the great work.
Great course, can train between taking calls
Great course to take. Important information.
Can start the course and return to finish a course after responding to a call.
Fire & EMS
Relevant, in-depth, highly recommended
This is an outstanding opportunity for anyone who is looking for a higher level of education on casualty care/emergency medicine. Dr. Shertz provides substantive evidence for his curriculum. His material is relevant and more in-depth than I have been able to find elsewhere. After completing the course I know I am better educated on the philosophy and principles of wounds, ballistics, and evidence-based wound care. He dispels the hype around what is traditionally taught as “Emergencies” and brings front and center the true emergencies, so that precious triage and ‘golden hour’ time can be spent saving lives. He’s serious but doesn’t take himself too seriously. I highly recommend the course and appreciate what I have learned, thank you.
It has been an absolute pleasure to listen to the lectures and learn so much in the process.
I started having an interest in close quarter survival as it is becoming more and more relevant in our environment, working in EMS. With that tactical situations can also be faced and thus it was imperative for me to understand this environment better in order to be prepared should I be faced with such a situation.
Thank you for this very detailed and structured information and course. It has been an absolute pleasure to listen to the lectures and learn so much in the process. The real-life references and examples really bring the content to the point and show the realism of the situations.
It would be great to partake in a face-to-face session with practical application of the content. Being so far away may make that difficult to achieve though.
I am super happy with the course and have zero regrets!
I recently renewed my NYS EMT Certification and I was on the lookout for a TCCC and/or TECC class. Unable to locate any posted yet for 2021 that wasn’t a 4+ hour drive from where I live, I came across Crisis Medicine’s website. I am super happy with the course and have zero regrets! In particular, I really admired how the info was presented and the context surrounding all the topics.
I will encourage friends and those I train/shoot with to visit this site and get some quality training.
I’ve sat through hundreds of hours of online training. Dr. Shertz’s course was totally different. He was engaging and authentic.

Over the weekend I completed the latest online offering from Crisis Medicine LLC, ‘Air Travel Emergencies’; the class was 7 total hours, of which 4 hours qualify for CAPCE credit, and wanted to leave a short review. The material covers in-flight medical emergencies, utilization of emergency equipment on the plane, what to expect during an evacuation or crash, and what First Responders traveling as passengers need to know to assist during an emergency.
As a fairly frequent flyer, circa 30 international flights per year, I have to hold my hand up to having become a little blasé about watching the safety demo, reading the safety card or even mentally clocking where my nearest emergency exit is located, so this course has definitely given me a hard-reset! I have responded to the “is there a doctor on board?” PA call quite a few times over the years, and the differences in emergency medical equipment across carrier airlines is immense- a whole section of this course goes into the whys & wherefores for this, but also (reassuringly) breaks down the most common medical presentations encountered mid-flight. Whilst aviation crashes are mercifully rare, precautionary emergency evacuations are far more frequent- and often involve injuries to those involved. I found the course content to be superbly well researched, with supporting data clearly explained & presented and with a ‘natural’ flow to the lesson progression. The presenter, Dr Mike Shertz, has obviously spent a considerable amount of time putting this together. This is not necessarily a course for pure medical providers by any stretch, but I would heartily recommend for all frequent air travelers- I’m all for a bit of self-preservation 😊
Fantastic training
This was a fantastic training. Lots of great information. I enjoyed how in-depth Dr. Shertz went into the studies which gave the information context. His real-world opinion was valuable as well
These presentations almost make it feel like you are there.
No matter if the injury is caused by accident, nature, or violent perpetrator. I believe it is important that one is capable of being your own first responder. We can make a difference during the time before more highly trained and equipped help arrives. This course adds a lot of important information, skills, and mindset that may not be typically provided in a more traditional first aid/CPR course.
The lectures, slides, videos, and demonstrations are well balanced and provide a comprehensive understanding of each topic and skill set. I know it is most ideal to work through these skills in person but these presentations almost make it feel like you are there. I also appreciate Dr. Shertz’s candor, humor, and unbiased discussion and evaluation of the many products and techniques that are presented.
The online course is very well done and kept my attention throughout. The scenario videos were not only entertaining, they were relevant to the information taught
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I had the unique opportunity to both go to the in-person CTC2 class in Beaverton, OR and finish a portion of the course online because I had to leave early. I have to say that nothing can replace the muscle memory gained and the ability to ask questions and get immediate feedback that the in-person class provides. The practical scenario day was very well done and put you into situations that provided real-world stress. You had to treat very realistic injuries from real situations that have happened around the country. That being said, the online course is very well done and kept my attention throughout. The scenario videos were not only entertaining, but they were also relevant to the information taught and Dr. Shertz narrates during portions to help reinforce the M.A.R.C.H. pneumonic and treatment priorities. Overall, this is one of the best courses I have ever taken. I feel that anyone in Law Enforcement or FIRE/EMS should definitely take one of these courses because of the environment we live in today.
Very happy I chose to take this online course for TECC/TCCC.
Dr. Shertz presents the full breadth and depth of TECC/TCCC in an engaging manner. His data-driven, evidence-based approach is very well reasoned. Drawing on an apparent depth of experience, he presents the material both lectures and skills in a very clear and efficient manner.
I categorically recommend it!
The format of the course can be savored from start to finish and the content is perfectly up to date. The scientific evidence outlined in each topic shows Dr. Shertz has left nothing to chance. I have taken the trouble to search for each scientific evidence that was presented and in each topic and I was amazed at the work that has gone into planning this course.
This course is an excellent opportunity for all prehospital providers and even more so for those who work in activities associated with the use of weapons. The syllabus for this course goes beyond the TECC syllabus and features a complete review of the guidelines.
All topics are given in connection with techniques and equipment in current use in the pre-hospital setting and in the combat field. This includes a review of the current use of some elements compared to the use in past war conflicts, such as the case of the tourniquet. The video and sound production are of very good quality and demonstrate the care and respect for the recipient.
Dr. Mike Shertz is an excellent presenter, his strong ability to manage the class makes the student have no doubts about the new topics that are being presented.
It is an excellent course. It is worth the money and time invested.
I categorically recommend it!
Our Fire Department has benefitted tremendously from this course
I loved the course! I greatly appreciated the depth of information that went into each course topic. It was valuable for me to see information that was supported by literature, evidence, etc. through the lens of Dr. Shertz’s unbiased opinion.
Myself, and the rest of our department participating in the course have benefited tremendously. I plan to make this course a requirement for the remainder of our team members and future team members, as I believe it helps create a solid foundation. I actually plan to go through it again while I still have access!! Thank you so much for all of your help along the way, and thank you all for developing a phenomenal course.
This course was amazing!!
Informative, engaging, functional and much more. As an Intensive Care Paramedic with a background in adult education and training, Mike delivered on all levels. The sessions were clear and well structured, and Mike’s approach toward empowering others through learning was evident in his teaching. I would recommend these course to anyone in the EMS arena who wish to expand their knowledge and are serious about ensuring continuous and high standards of self development.
Truly top of the line continuing education
The Tactical-CBRN course offered here is truly top of the line continuing education for EMS and medical professionals. Dr. Shertz clearly demonstrates a mastery of the materials and he delivers them in a manner that shows he cares about the learner as both a student and a practitioner. He goes above and beyond almost all other CBRN classes aimed at prehospital providers, yet every bit of the course is directly applicable to their practice. The material is clear enough for personnel lacking any significant background in the subject matter, while simultaneously remaining intriguing for those of us who have spent a long time diving into this realm. That balance is very hard to strike when covering CBRN.
If you have not taken this course, you are missing out and you should remedy that immediately. Great customer service. Crisis-Medicine can count on me to be a repeat customer and a champion for this class and their other courses.
The course is fantastic!
I am a Engineer/Paramedic with Bend Fire & Rescue. I am also a Tactical Medic with the Central Oregon Emergency Response Team (CERT).
Enjoyable, knowledgeable, and detailed
The Advanced TC2 online course is very enjoyable.
The presenter Dr. Mike Shertz is very knowledgeable, the way the course is presented is very detailed and the skills that you will learn could save a life, in a tactical or everyday life.
I will be doing the Complete TC2 in the near future.
It is by far one of the best, if not the best medical classes I have ever taken

…Engaging and easy to understand…
I recently completed the Crisis Medicine Complete TC2 online course and I was very impressed with the quality of the content and the teaching methods. The course is comprehensive and covers a wide range of topics. Doc did a great job of making the material engaging and easy to understand. The scenarios were great! Thank you
The material is presented in such a deft manner with illustrative examples and reinforced with repetition that retention of information comes pleasantly easy.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Well worth the investment!
Yes, as Dr. Shertz says in his intro, he provides a lot of information in these lectures. “Encyclopedic” I believe was one of the terms he used, however, I never found an encyclopedia nearly as interesting nor as engaging as his topics and style of teaching. As an advanced practitioner of medicine, I find the “why“ almost as important as the “what“, and Mike does an excellent job of explaining why certain procedures, techniques, and tools are superior to alternatives.
The material is presented in such a deft manner with illustrative examples and reinforced with repetition that retention of information comes pleasantly easy. Dr. Shertz’s expertise in this subject matter is evident as he proficiently breaks down complex medical concepts for learners of all backgrounds. I am also impressed by the ease of use of the electronic platform. It has been easy to start, stop, and resume lectures as my busy schedule allows. All in all, I have truly enjoyed this lecture series and feel that my medical practice has benefited. My investment in this educational program has been well worth my time and my ducats.
Five-Star, factual information
As a FF/AEMT, I have been exposed to several gunshots in the field. I have had large calibers cause very minimal damage, and small calibers cause death and large amounts of damage. I am an avid hunter and have grown up using firearms and reloading ammunition and had a fairly healthy knowledge of how bullets impacted, and what would cause these differences. All in all, I took this course as a way to confirm or debunk things I had come to believe based on field experience and to use something with a larger pool to gather factual information.
Extremely useful, well presented, and engaging
This was another great module, completing information not covered in traditional learning classes. I found this to be extremely useful, well presented and the lectures kept you engaged in learning the materials, with an abundant amount of information presented. The information learned is relevant to EMS providers and first Responders and has given me the edge of confidence needed if or when an event like this should arise.
As a medical director for several fire departments, I can say it is the BEST trauma course you can take.
I have taken the 5 day TCCC class twice. As a medical director for several fire departments, I can say it is the BEST trauma course you can take.
I can say without reservation on that Dr. Shertz’s courses are of the highest quality. He is a talented instructor who explains medical procedures to students at all levels, even in audiences ”with mixed provider levels. His lectures are based on a clear review of the medical literature and include demonstrative photographs and diagrams pulled from disparate sources including textbooks, newspaper photographs, and images pulled from the internet to support his teaching points. His material is always up to date and includes the most recent advances in the field of emergency medical services, TECC, and TCCC.
…One of my favorite online classes in any subject I’ve ever taken.
Have you ever taken a class, and then been kinda bummed that it was over? This class was so interesting, and well given. The amount of information, plus just the way it was delivered was perfect. Dr. Shertz knows his stuff back and front and sideways. He’s got the resume to prove it. But he doesn’t act like a know it all. He acts like one of your peers showing you the way and it makes the information that much more interesting and easy to digest. This was one of my favorite online classes in any subject I’ve ever taken. Dr. Shertz and everyone who worked on this should be commended.
Excellent Course
This is an excellent course and should be a must have for every prehospital provider and LEO. This course gives you profound knowledge which exceeds the curriculum of TECC and gives you a complete review of the guidelines.
Dr. Mike Shertz is an excellent teacher, humorous, an outstanding presenter, diverting but enormously profound. One of the best courses I participated. Definitely worth the money and time spent.
An outstanding course taught by a top-tier instructor.
Spent the last three days attending Crisis Medicine’s Advanced Tactical Casualty Care course. In a few words, an outstanding course taught by a top-tier instructor. By the third day, participants were repeatedly handling arterial hemorrhaging from realistic gunshot wounds, penetrating chest and wounds, even amputations, and eviscerations in multiple stress based scenarios with LOTS of training blood and drama-inducing injury props, all under the watchful eyes of very highly experienced special operations medics and chief instructor Dr. Mike Shertz.
One of the best training experiences I’ve ever had, provided me with simple, effective life-saving tools I hope never to employ.
I have taken Crisis’ one day, [in-person] TCC class in 2010 as well as the [in-person] Advanced TC2 class in 2014, both through Insights Training Center. I cannot speak highly enough of Mike’s pedagogical approach, from the quality and depth of the instructional content to his ability as a speaker and instructor to engage his audience and impart new skills and knowledge. I’ve taken classes with several of the “big names” in tactical training and Mike is among the best instructors with whom I’ve been fortunate to train.
In TC2, Mike skillfully interleaved lecture material and hands-on labs. Let’s face it, few people want to sit in a room listening to someone talk, but Mike kept it completely engaging and always just the right length before breaking or transitioning to a hands-on practical session to drill the material further. I did not feel a single minute was ‘wasted time’ or find myself glancing at a watch. The final day of ATC2 was purely scenario-based training and from the facility used to the realistic makeup/practical effects employed to simulate trauma to the those who played victims in the drills, every bit was absolutely top-notch. It was one of the best training experiences I’ve ever had and provided me with simple, effective life-saving tools I hope never to employ. I cannot recommend Mike and Crisis Medicine highly enough.
This ranks in the top classes I have taken. Maybe the best. Exceptionally well done!
I just completed the [online] TC2 course and thought I’d drop you a note and let you know how much I liked the course. Actually loved the course! I am a CPA and over the years have done a ton of CPE to maintain my certification and this ranks in the top classes I have taken. Maybe the best. Exceptionally well done!
Thank you for providing this material. I hope I never have to use it, but as with CPR, you never know. I have had to use CPR a couple of times, so I’ll sleep better after taking this course should I ever be in a situation where these skills are needed.
A wealth of information designed to allow us to make good decisions when shit goes wrong.
I was in your Tactical First Aid class in June of 2016. I loved the class, both lectures and demos. The wealth of information designed to allow us to make good decisions when shit goes wrong. Now 734 days later, last Saturday, I was at the range for a steel challenge match and ended up addressing a 9mm ball round through a guy’s thigh. I was so glad I took that class.
I was so glad that I took YOUR class. Thank you for all the help.
The guy is fine. What struck me after the fact was that I didn’t consciously decide to take action, I just hauled ass around the berm and found myself gloved up and cutting a dude’s pants. It wasn’t a matter of confidence, more a deeper sense of duty (or maybe I just relished the opportunity). Your class made me a better person simply by triggering a more worthwhile response.
…Outstanding and well-set-out material
I commend Crisis Medicine on this outstanding and well-set-out material and for making this material available to people like myself, who want to become more educated and prepared in the event of an emergency. Having skills to help and build the confidence to step up and assist rather than watching in the background and not knowing how to make a difference. In this instance to hugely important members of an operational team like K9’s. Specifically, we you have the best Dutch Shepherd on the planet, in our humble opinion!
Thank you for this!
With respect,
Greg Webster
Highly researched, packed with examples, and delivered with top-notch production quality…
Tactical Casualty Care is the holy grail in crisis first aid training. Mike Shertz expertly distills his decades of experience as a Special Forces Medic and as an Emergency Room Physician into a powerful fact-filled training that leaves you confident knowing what to do in a crisis first aid event. Mike cuts through urban legends and misinformation and shows, through research and real-life situations, what works and what doesn’t.
Mike has seen it, done it, and knows how to share it in a powerful presentation style that sticks. Everyone can benefit from this important information. Highly researched, packed with examples, and delivered with top-notch production quality, this online course will give you skills that can mean the difference between life and death for someone you love or anyone you may encounter who needs crisis first aid
Comprehensive and Thorough
This is a comprehensive and thorough course in an easy to follow and understand format from an amazing instructor. I would love to take the in-person version of this course as a refresher someday.
I can not recommend this course highly enough!
Having a background as both an EMT and Tactical Firearms instructor I thought I knew a lot but I was amazed at all the things I learned! Dr. Shertz teaches his curriculum in a very easy to understand and no nonsense way that applies directly to real world scenarios that many of us may face on a daily basis and takes the time to explain in detail how to address the crisis. The lectures are engaging and the training is spot on.
I feel more confident in helping in a bad situation
I am a member of a beginner, rag-tag little CERT team (with minimal training), and a member of an online preparedness community. We all want to be able to render aid to our friends and families. Who knows what is going to happen in the near future with all the lawlessness in our cities.
I took the Essential Casualty Care class and felt like I got so much out of that short course. It was definitely worth the $25. I now plan to take the TC2 class as well. Though it is not hands-on, I do feel like I will gain much knowledge from it.
You really also took away the confusion I previously had on what to include in a trauma kit and how to actually USE those items! – which I know should become my “everyday carry kit”. I feel more confident in what I will purchase and I feel more confident in helping in a bad situation. There are way too many youtube videos showcasing all the different kits and items without explaining it in concrete visual terms like your online class did.
I never even knew there were public access trauma kits sometimes located near the AED boxes. Now I will be keeping an eye out for those!
Lastly, it was shocking to learn how belts do not work as tourniquets and actually can create much bigger problems. I appreciate the detailed explanation of WHY it doesn’t work. Makes complete sense. What a great misconception about that.
Take the class!
Years ago, I made sure I had the latest C.A.T. tourniquet to put in my trauma kit but only recently did I learn how to use it and ended up getting a newer version. I’ve always taken pride in being well prepared on having a complete first aid kit but not knowing how to use everything is not to bright.
In January (2020) I took a Stop the Bleed class and became energized to learn more. Later on, I watched the video “Until Help Arrives” (FEMA) which added to a good basic skill set on hemorrhage control. But after I went through Tactical Casualty Care (TC2) I feel like I’m a part of my local EMS community by being an “Active Bystander”.
Today I have confidence and empowerment as I’m hiking, working outside, doing errands, or if come across a violent incident…doing something is better than nothing! I keep my new Trauma Management Kit (as I call it) next to me in my car or on my pack because every second counts. I recommend putting your own kit together instead of an OTC kit because you can put in the best components available, for example I have the C.A.T. 7, ETD (NAR), etc. because they work and are backed by science. So, what I’m trying to say is take the class!
The detail, stress inoculation and real-world applicability gave me confidence that I can handle situations
Most of my life I lived in a safe bubble. I practiced martial arts and self-defence but never had the opportunity to learn any medicine for TECC/TCCC environments. I moved to Portland right before the Pandemic and quickly learned that anything could happen, anywhere, at anytime, and if I wasn’t prepared I would totally be a liability.
I took TC2 and I’m working my way through K9 TC2 and CRBN. The detail, stress inoculation and real-world applicability gave me confidence that I can handle situations much more intense than I ever thought. Dr. Shertz taught it in such a straightforward way that my curiosity is taking me towards an R-EMT program in the near future to be more involved in TECC. It was insanely informative, honestly fun, and entertaining. I now trust the skills I’ve learned can safe my life, as well as my friends and family. I know that the images and stories I’ve seen will prepare me for situations that others would freeze in. The whole Crisis Medicine team went above and beyond in helping me learn and feel a part of the community. Looking forward to more training in the future.
Consider this training mandatory
If you are around guns or any other pursuit that puts you at risk of serious trauma, you need this training. It’s focused, compelling, and backed by facts and data. I can only hope that any first-responders who treat me or those close to me have had this training or have been trained by those who have. If you carry, this training is as important as the law of self-defense and shooting training.
outstanding job of making the material clear and concise
Considering the complexity of the subject, Dr. Shertz does an outstanding job of making the material clear and concise. He has a passion for evidence-based care, and is able to speak with obvious experience and authority on trauma care. I enjoyed the course and will encourage others to take the TC2 course as well.
Clear explanations and demonstrations, honest assessments of gear and techniques, and a straight-up, no-BS approach to saving lives.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Tactical Casualty Care — take it!
Excellent course. Mike knows his stuff — he has seen, treated, and photographed just about every trauma a body can sustain. Clear explanations and demonstrations, honest assessments of gear and techniques, and a straight-up, no-BS approach to saving lives. My last Tactical First Aid training was early 2000’s vintage, so TC2 was not only a great refresher but a great update — lots of new material. If for some reason you’re on the fence, take this class! Everyone should have this kind of life-saving knowledge
In seamanship, the primary rule is: keep the water out. This class could be nicknamed: keep the blood in.
In basic boating seamanship, there are a couple of primary rules and one is: Keep the water out. Dr. Shertz’s class on Tactical Casualty Care could be nicknamed: Keep the blood in. Dr. Shertz is a dynamic and crisp instructor and compelling educator. I unlearned years of Hollywood war movie myths on what a bullet does to the body and learned what really happens when a person (or gelatin) gets shot.
Most importantly I learned what I could do to help ‘keep the blood in’ and how to go about that to a reasonable degree. Both the classroom and hands-on instruction were thorough and I recommend the class to anyone who wants to become more educated in tactical casualty care, or wants to possibly be of use if found in a direct or indirect threat event with casualties and minimal equipment.
…The online training and step-by-step skills stations are every bit as effective at driving home the material as the in-person training
Transformational! Crisis-medicine.com’s Complete Tactical Emergency Casualty Care course has been one of the most transformational experiences in my life. Dr. Shertz’s practical, no-bullshit approach to triage and treatment of life-threatening trauma has been distilled down to skills and techniques that are very trainable, attainable, and applicable for civilian hands.
After taking this course I am confident in my ability to identify, treat, and manage mass casualties in any active violent event. I can build an aid system using equipment that has been researched, tested, and proven to work – and that won’t fail my expectations during a crisis. Everyone who believes that it’s important to be prepared for emergencies should crave this knowledge; everyone has something to learn here.
Having taken both the in-person and online training I can honestly say that the online training and step-by-step skills stations are every bit as effective at driving home the material as the in-person training and track very closely with the classroom experience. In some cases, the on-line training is actually a superior way to learn the material, as you can back up to a section you want to review or pause and ponder a graph or chart that is being presented. Although the hands-on classroom experience is undeniably beneficial, the online course will still get your knowledge and mindset where it needs to be for you to act as an effective force multiplier for good if the worst should happen. Thank you Dr. Shertz!
I can’t wait to learn more with CM
Took the 10-hour (in-person) TC2 class at Insights last summer. I can’t wait to go back to learn more with CM.
A fantastic way to learn life-saving skills
I have been in my fair share of medical classes but this was my first ever online course. That being said this course is a fantastic way to learn life-saving skills. Just don’t forget, perfect practice makes perfect so keep your skills sharp!
Dr. Shertz is the perfect balance of huge doctor brain, dark humor, and 18-D to keep me learning, interested, and engaged. I certainly giggled more than a few times. I would recommend this course to anyone who wants to be an asset to society, team, and family.
The support I got was great. At one point I clicked a button in the course that I didn’t mean to but the support I got was really solid, solved the issue and super friendly.
Overall the course is clear, feasible, contains great material, and is a lifetime skill set
I am a 56-year-old New Yorker, I’m not going to bug out in case of an emergency like a climatic emergency or civil unrest. Having this type of skill is useful for me first, my family second, others in need, and also as a bartering skill to keep me and my family safe.
Finally learning something useful and potentially helpful to the community at large for any number of circumstances is an intelligent thing to do. Further in NY in normal times you could expect a 4 minute to 15 minute response time by trained pros. These skills could very well be the difference between life and death.
To anyone out there considering this course: don’t do as I did. Do not buy the equipment first and take the course second. You’ll save yourself a lot of cash by doing it the other way around. And another takeaway you will only need the equipment you are trained on. Maybe some backup of those in your car, at work. But training first, equip yourself second.
Overall the course is clear, feasible, contains great material, and is a lifetime skill set I wish I would have thought of acquiring many years ago. Give this to your kids as a present as soon as you feel they can take it! And finally, if you own a gun it would be almost criminal not to have these skills.
Thank you to Crisis Medicine. As soon as I can I’m taking the next course.
Wow! I love the no-BS approach
Covid-19 is ongoing, but, I recently returned to working in an office in NYC. That means a ~1.5-2h commute each way through various public transits. With the current political environment, I felt too exposed to threats. I carry a TQ, QuickClot, chest vent, Israeli bandage, gloves, and sheers (wow, my carry gear is completely about to change, thank you!) and felt “confident”, but “untrained”.
I watched a lot of YouTube videos (wow, they are wrong); but, had on my docket to take a 2-day course on trauma wounds taught by former SF. With the virus, the course was canceled.
I did a search and found this, read the reviews, looked at the material listing, and figured this would be worth a shot.
WOW! I am an engineer, a mountaineer, and this material literally speaks to me. I love the no-BS approach. I love the “this is the data around IF this works and under what conditions.”
I recently attended the Tactical Casualty Care Course held in Brisbane, Australia. Not only is Mike a great guy with a wealth of knowledge, but he’s an excellent instructor with the experience to back up his skills and knowledge. Having served as a medic in an airborne unit, as well as service in policing and as a security contractor in hostile environments, the TC2 run by Crisis Medicine was current, relevant and a good mix of theory and practical skills. An outstanding course, and one that I’d recommend to everyone, no matter if you are a first-time student, or if you are a surgeon, you WILL learn.
with today’s environment and the potential remoteness of our hobbies, the need for more advanced training … was needed.
It was incredible how much the class learned
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Essential Training For Everyone
I’ve taken the TC2 in-person class, and it was incredible how much the class learned. I decided to take the Advanced TC2 online to add to my knowledge base. What you learn in this class will help you aid yourself and others. Dr. Shertz will tell you what’s bogus and what is medical fact. Then you’ll learn to use that knowledge. Don’t be an internet ninja with an IFAK you don’t know how to use. Be the person who can truly help someone.
I really enjoyed the no-nonsense teaching
There is very little education available out there for active people (family, job) who are not available to take classes in a real school setting beyond what the Red Cross or AHA offers (BLS, First Aid). Seminars are expensive and not always available within a 300-mile radius. As a teacher and gun owner, basic trauma first aid/TECC is important. I have also invested in plenty of supplies to fill several IFAKs, and I am very familiar with commercial TECC supplies.
I was pleasantly surprised by the circumspect tone of the videos and the cautious approach to gear and recommendations (chest seals, for example). All in all, I was very satisfied by the course. Thank you.
Bravo!
This ranks in the top classes I have taken. Maybe the best. Exceptionally well done!

Thank you.

It is important to learn tactical care techniques as we are the first line of protection for our students.
I completed the Tactical Casualty Care course both in-person and online. Being an educator at an elementary school, I think it is important to learn these tactical care techniques as we are the first line of protection for our students. The techniques can be used in any type of emergency situation earthquake, fire, and during active shooter situations. Mike is a great instructor providing information that is easy to understand, remember and replicate. I feel confident that I can help save a life!
I really enjoyed the no-nonsense teaching

Exactly what I needed to understand the topic in an online course
No one wants to think about situations like this, especially not when you work with young children. However, it is important to me to be prepared with the hope that I’ll never have to use what I learned in this course. Having no medical background myself, Dr. Shertz made this course digestible and engaging to someone like me. The pictures, while graphic, were exactly what I needed to understand the topic in an online course where you can’t ask questions. His pace is perfect, and he covers all important topics with no “fluff.” My free time as an educator is valuable and short, and I feel that this course was an excellent use of it. While it isn’t something I necessarily want to feel comfortable about, I do feel like in an emergency, I could remain calm, remember the material, and maybe even help save a life. I highly recommend this course to anyone, but especially educators.
I wanted the best available, most realistic and comprehensive training.
I’m a high school teacher, and now I have a fairly new responsibility of bleeding control knowledge under “other duties as assigned.”
I wanted the best available, most realistic and comprehensive training. After taking the course himself, as well as several others, my boyfriend decided this was the best course on the market for my additional responsibility at school. I have to agree; due to the training I received, I have successfully dealt with a 911 call, another lesser emergency, and have been able to identify and insist on the removal of 800 counterfeit tourniquets from our school classrooms.
Without the training from Crisis Medicine, I would not have been as prepared to confidently address these emergencies. I hope not to use these skills, but I know I can if my students and colleagues need.
Our School leadership team learned crucial skills in a clear and accessible manner
As a school administrator with student safety as my top priority, I felt compelled to do something to prepare for the worst. Mike’s course taught our leadership team crucial skills in a clear, hands-on, rational, and accessible manner. Mike’s approach delivers Stress Inoculation for the learners, which I deeply valued. The topics are intense and real. Thinking through scenarios in advance can only serve us better in a real crisis. My team feels prepared, calm, and knowledgeable after spending the time in this course. I strongly believe that this approach to community health is one that any school should pursue. The learned skills are as good for a crisis as they are for a serious playground injury.
Thanks much Crisis Medicine and please keep up the good work.
Informative & Interesting
I just finished the course! I am a teacher, working from home during COVID-19. I am a Registered Nurse and middle school Health Science teacher. In this day of school/mass shootings, this course is a valuable tool that I hope I’ll never need to use. I appreciated that actual photos were used to help desensitize me to the nature of what a real life trauma may look like.
In this day and age, it’s so important to have these life-saving skills. I feel more confident in my ability to help should the need ever arise. The course was well organized and the information was presented in a very clear and understandable manner.
This course has been such a valuable experience
This course has been such a valuable experience for me and my team as we are updating and advancing our emergency preparedness for our school. Factually and realistically Mike has taught us how to mentally prepare for a crisis situation, manage staff, students and parents and certainly how to provide more than just basic first aid. Mike’s years of experience in this field become evident in his knowledge and style of teaching. Both helped us tremendously in retaining the information and building our own knowledge. Crisis Medicine has gone above and beyond to provide us with the critical information and supplies we needed to prepare for emergency situations in a school setting. Our school community feels more prepared because of it and we are grateful for their ongoing support!
